On the Midnight Train to Budapest | Why Traveling on Tracks is so much more fun

I had always had a quiet passion for train travels, particularly after seeing the remake of Agatha Christie´s “Murder on the Orient-Express” recently in the movie theatre. But once you check the prices for this exclusive two to four days short trip, you quickly begin to reconsider other possible alternatives. And while I mostly rely on the plane as first choice transportation mode, it was owed to my partner that for our recent weekend escape to Budapest, we found ourselves racing the tracks on the midnight train from Munich central station to Budapest Keleti. And what can I say? It turned out to be a comfortable, time-saving and refreshing way to travel! Sleeping in inclusive. Continue reading

A “Garden of Eden” at the Northern end of the British main isle. Continue reading

Fantastic Waterways – New York City

There is no such thing as a mid-day arrival after a Transatlantic passage into the harbor of New York City and therefore a bucket list item for everyone! I remember how disappointed we were upon check-in in Southampton, that our scheduled overnight stay on the Bermudas had to be cancelled due to heavy storms over the Atlantic Ocean. And that the ship had to evade towards Madeira instead. But what was a tremendous frustration at first sight, turned out to be a marvelous day-time experience that most cruisers do not get to see when crossing the Atlantic. Continue reading

Shanghai | Culture Clash

I have been longtime in clinch with the Chinese mega city. Too big, too crowded, too artificial. Shanghai was my synonym for a typical modern China civilization that would extinct each historic part to make room for new, faceless and interchangeable skyscrapers. In other words, I felt that the city had no soul, no origin. So I was glad to discover during my last trip, that there still are relics of those original neighborhoods (hutongs) which I fell in love with in Beijing already. Continue reading
