Vacation time is the best time of the year. Particularly, because it is the only time of year that I get to share all those precious moments and experiences with the one person I love. 2018 has been a tough year, so both of us were in urgent need of relaxation and rebooting of our energy levels. And nothing soothes feeling worn-out and tired better than a good old Transatlantic cruise on the last ocean liner there is: RMS Queen Mary 2.
There is no such thing as a mid-day arrival after a Transatlantic passage into the harbor of New York City and therefore a bucket list item for everyone! I remember how disappointed we were upon check-in in Southampton, that our scheduled overnight stay on the Bermudas had to be cancelled due to heavy storms over the Atlantic Ocean. And that the ship had to evade towards Madeira instead. But what was a tremendous frustration at first sight, turned out to be a marvelous day-time experience that most cruisers do not get to see when crossing the Atlantic. Continue reading
During Xmas time, there are only few destinations around the world that attract travelers like moths are attracted by the light. And one of them, by far, is New York City. But even if the Big Apple surely is one of the most stressful pre-holiday shopping paradises, it offers some of the most extraordinary Xmas decorations around. The Big Apple is spectacular in every season. But on a beautiful Fall day with the sun standing low and diving the entire skyline into a deep golden light, New York gets me every single time. Continue reading
She is one of the most iconic passenger ships of modern times and the last true ocean liner sailing the classic transatlantic passage from Southampton to New York and back. I have sailed the one and only RMS Queen Mary 2 a few times already and even though they say “some things cannot get better”, I found out during my latest visit to the queen in the port of Hamburg that they surely can. Having been remastered just a few months ago, QM2 returns into service with retouched interiors that once again reinforce her statement: You are not taking a cruise. You are about to make a journey. Continue reading
There are over 114 National Historic Landmarks in New York City and uncountable other sites of fabulous architecture to gaze at in wonder. On my latest layover in the “City that never Sleeps” I decided to check out seven of some of the Big Apple´s most beautiful public buildings and spaces. Their interiors will absolutely blow you away and the best: The entrance is absolutely for free! Join me on a very special sightseeing tour. Continue reading
2016 is a great year for Carnival fans around the world. It marks the cruise line´s return to Europe after a few years break and the introduction of the company´s newest resort vessel, Carnival Vista, bringing impressive innovations to the seas like the first IMAX theatre or the thrilling Skyride bicycle course. Just to name a few.

It´s funny, but NYC has been long time on my “Black List” for cabin crew destinations. Too loud, too crowded, too much. But like everything else in life, tastes and personal preferences change like nature changes seasons. Continue reading
