Located only 10 to 15 minutes walking distance to Málaga´s central train station, the Mariposa hotel offers stylish and contemporary accommodations at an affordable price close to the city´s main sights and not too far away from the port if you are looking for a pre or post cruise place to stay.
Getting there is very easy as there is a direct connection from Málaga airport into the city. The trains are very modern and their airy interiors leave plenty of room to take your luggage inside, so it´s probably the most convenient and inexpensive way to bridge the distance into town.
When I stayed at Mariposa Hotel, it was part of the (at that time) rather young and quickly expanding chain Room Mate Hotels, carrying the name Lola.
It is located in a rather quiet residential street and has lots of restaurants and bars in walking distance. The beautiful Centro Histórico is also in very close reach. Only if you were planning to walk from the hotel to the cruise terminals, I would highly recommend to take a taxi.
The design is very contemporary and sleek with most of the only 52 rooms being fitted with individual color schemes.
One thing that might be good to know is that there is no fitness center on the premise if you were looking to workout during your stay, but running errands can well be done in close reach by the port.
Breakfast is generally included in the room rate and offers a great selection of cold and warm dishes and a wide range of cold cuts.
There are several rooms and areas to hang around during the day and in the evenings, making the ground level a very sociable meeting point.
I did stay for just a night, so I opted for a Standard room. You might want to compare the rates that the large booking platforms offer with the one that is done directly from the hotel before you book. Sometimes, this can additionally save you some cash.
The standard rooms are well equipped with a very comfortable King size bed and offer a generous size of approximately 22 square meters.
They feature a large LCD television, a mini bar (with great prices) and a bathroom with bath tub and shower.
There is a desk, an armchair and a closet. WiFi is available throughout the hotel and is included in the room rate.
I really liked the hotel for this short intermezzo and would definitely recommend to stay there. If I had a few more days in town, I might have chosen a location more centrally located inside the historic part of town, but for my purpose it was perfect.
I walked to the port with my luggage the next day which is doable, but a little strenuous. I would not do it again, to be honest.
Here are a few more photos of the room that I stayed in. I hope, you will have an awesome time in Málaga. It is a wonderful city with lots of beauty to discover! Enjoy!
