Rome | Hotel Duca d´Alba

Finding the perfect hotel in Rome for one can be quite difficult. My goal is always the ideal balance between location, comfort and price. Four star hotel Duca d´Alba was the ultimate choice for our two nights pre-cruise stay in late May.

Situated only 300 metres away from the Coliseum and the Roman Forum, the hotel lies in the bustling heart of the beautiful Suburra neighbourhood (also known as Monti). With an array of stylish Italian trattorie, a wide selection of other restaurants and many inviting wine bars, Suburra has it all when it comes to fine dining and local delicacies.

There are also many artesian shops and some of the trendiest boutiques in town just a stroll away from the hotel. And it is only one stop by metro to Stazzione Termini, from where you can take the train to Civitavecchia (if you plan your transfer to the ship individually).

Suburra is also only a few minutes walk away from Domus Aurea, Piazza Venezia and Campidoglio. Even the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Stairs and Piazza del Popolo can be reached easily by foot (approx. 30 minutes).

Suburra is a very lively neighbourhood. You will have to be aware of the fact that if you want to stay downtown in Rome and close to the sights, you will have to compromise on noise particularly in the evenings and on weekends. I always have a pack of earplugs with me. That helps big-time!

The staff of the hotel is extremely friendly and helpful, but never seemed put-on or pretentious. We booked our executive room via the hotel´s website using their 15% discount code and the rate was even lower than the one offered by This rate is payable in cash only when checking in, even if you have given credit card details to confirm your reservation. You might want to have this in mind.

Breakfast is included and is served downstairs every morning until 10am. It consists of a good selection of cold cuts, muesli, fruits, yogurt, Antipasti and a few warm components and helps you to start into the day energized and ready-to-go.

I would definitely stay at Duca d´Alba again and can absolutely recommend it! Atmosphere and ambience were comfortable and pleasant and the location suited our needs perfectly!
