Mexico City | My Top Breakfast Spots

Polanco features many excellent restaurants

Like shortly mentioned in my previous blog post, Mexico City´s gastro scene is so much more than breakfast tortillas and quesadillas. In this post, I will let the pictures speak for themselves rather than getting too much into written detail.

Because we all know: When it comes to food, it is all about the personal taste!

Today, I would like to introduce you to two of my favourite hot spots for breakfast in the neighbourhood Polanco. I like places that have their own personal style, that are authentic and offer good quality at reasonable prices. And that always have a large number of locals frequenting. And here we go!

This place serves amazing croissants and freshly squeezed juices and smoothies! My favourites are the Huevos à la Mexicana, the Ham & Cheese Omelette and the Ham & Cheese Croissant with fresh Avocado for a hearty start into the day. Their cappuccino isn´t the worse either, but I am in LOVE with the Hugo Rojo, a freshly blended fruit smoothie mainly made of red berries. Delicious! Casa Portuguesa has a neat outdoor terrace and is particularly popular with business women and men working in the area. It is always fun to sit in backpacker outfit in between all those suits and ties.

From its interior design and furnishing, Maison Belen could be best described as “Girl´s Place” with attributes like “cute”, “lovely” or “sweet”. But the crowd is conveniently mixed, from girlfriends taking a break during their shopping spree, business men having a quick bite in between or simply the retiree couple from around the corner enjoying their breakfast. It is a great place to start the day in a friendly and comfy atmosphere! The service is extremely welcoming and highly sufficient. Maison Belen serves illy coffee and their cappuccino is to die for! Each order receives freshly baked up baguette with homemade marmalade (delicious!). Try their Huevos Rancheros, a traditional Mexican egg dish with salsa, tortilla, beans and cheese and a Hugo Verde! Hmmmmmm! And while you can watch the cooks preparing the meals made-to-order in the open kitchen, the owner and his dog supervise the whole place from their outdoor office right next to the beautiful terrace.
